History

This simple, vernacular style house was built circa 1907. It first appears in the city directory in 1908, and was inhabited by postal clerk Charles J. Weeks and his wife Maud A. It is named the Spitter House after its most longstanding resident Carl F. Spitter, who lived here from 1929 until at least 1961. Spitter was the Vice President and Manager of Lorain County Savings and Trust (People’s Oberlin Branch) and was the Treasurer of the Oberlin Chamber of Commerce. The College purchased the home in 2006, and offers it to students in its Village Housing program.
